Dear all,
What's the problem that exacerbates all the other problems? Monopoly media.
Media Venture Collective (http://www.mediaventure.org/?id= ) is an important new way for citizens to participate in fixing that. It's driven by the optimistic, constructive vision that we, the people, can change the media game rules at a systemic level. We can't depend on government and the "free market" to make that happen. So let's do it ourselves.
It's an innovative structure, a grass-roots, 501c3 venture fund, kind of a hybrid between a community foundation and a venture fund; it thinks like the latter, but driven by purpose, not financial gain. It's focused on investing in "disruptive" media technologies that serve the public interest by leveling the playing field for responsible, independent media.
The list of partners includes a super-group of independent media, eco-social activism, and digital liberty organizations. They've all committed to help grow the fund to a size significant enough to make a real difference.
Check it out at http://www.mediaventure.org/?id=, chip in whatever you can afford, and forward this to anyone you think cares passionately about fixing our seriously broken media system.
